GiftLift

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions donors ask us most — tax status, receipts, how funds move, and how to get involved.

Is GiftLift a 501(c)(3)?

GiftLift has applied to the IRS for recognition of federal tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3). Our application is filed and our determination letter is pending. EIN: 42-3194934. For the full status disclosure, EIN record, and pending-status explanation, see our /nonprofit-info page.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Cash donations to GiftLift will be tax-deductible once the IRS issues our determination letter. Gift card and in-kind donations may also be deductible — please consult your tax advisor and reference our EIN 42-3194934. For the full tax-deductibility disclosure, email GiftLift@giftlift.org.

What percentage of my donation goes to programs?

100%. GiftLift operates on a pass-through model — every dollar of program funding reaches our community partners. Administrative costs are covered separately, so donations to programs are not diluted by overhead.

Where do my donations go?

Donations are pooled, catalogued by category, and routed to vetted community partners serving people experiencing homelessness, low-income families, prison reentry, immigrants, youth, veterans, seniors, recently unemployed individuals, and single-parent families. See our donor-impact metrics on the /impact page — numbers are placeholders today and will be replaced with real figures once the first wave of donations is reported.

Can I donate gift cards?

Yes — gift cards are the core of what we do. See our /donate page for instructions on donating physical or virtual cards.

Can I volunteer?

We don’t run an individual volunteer program yet. If you work for a community partner organization and want to refer clients to GiftLift support, please fill out our partner form and a team member will follow up.

Who runs GiftLift?

GiftLift is led by a small founding team and an advisory board covering mission, community partnerships, finance & compliance, and corporate outreach. See our /nonprofit-info advisory board section for current seats.

How do I get a receipt?

Online donations will receive an automatic receipt once our IRS determination is issued and our donation platform is live. Until then, gift card donations made by mail receive a written acknowledgment within five business days of receipt. Email GiftLift@giftlift.org to coordinate.
